Montana Fly Fishing

Lets face it, the number one reason you are choosing to visit Montana is our wild trout. From our legendary Brown Trout to our spectacular Rainbow Trout or try some of our tributaries for Brook Trout or Cutthroat Trout, either way, you will know you are casting into the best blue-ribbon trout habitat in North America. Let us provide you with everything you need to have a successful day on the water.

Land of the Giants

In the early 1800’s the Corps of Discovery made their arduous trek up the Missouri river. The then free flowing river made a big bend through a very rugged, steep and beautiful limestone canyon. Near a place where the Corps was camped the canyon ended, and the breathtaking view was named “The Gates of the Mountains”. Years ago the upper area of Holter Lake, a reservoir of the upper Missouri river, was discovered by fly fisherman to be a special place to fish for trophy rainbow trout, and monster brown trout. With no public boat ramp near the upper three miles of flowing river, hard to access wade fishing was the only way people could get into the steep rugged canyon below the Hauser Dam. By launching a jet boat at the Gates of the Mountains marina, anglers can get access to the abundant trout that call these waters home. With the Sleeping Giant looming over holter reservoir, and the large fish that can be caught in the beautiful mountainous setting, the moniker, “the Land of the Giants” was born. In order for us to send anglers to fish at “L.O.G.” the guide must also be licensed as a Captain by the U.S. Coast Guard. Because these trips require private land lease fees, launch fees, captains license and jet boats, we charge an additional $150 per boat. Due to the limited availability of licensed captains, last minute trips to “L.O.G.” are not often possible. Please book well in advance.
